Nirmohi is a curated thumri ensemble conceptualised, produced, and led by Shivani Kallianpur, as a heartfelt tribute to the evocative artistry of Gauhar Jaan and Begum Akhtar—two iconic voices who shaped the expressive language of thumri across eras. The production traces the journey of thumri—from the intimate mehfils of courtesans to the modern concert stage—retaining its delicate interplay of nazakat, ada, and bhava. At its core, Nirmohi explores longing—not just as romantic separation, but as a deeper emotional and spiritual state. Through carefully selected compositions and nuanced interpretation, the ensemble revives the intimate storytelling tradition of thumri while making it resonate with contemporary audiences
