Rehmat-e-Nusrat is a group of young, self-trained qawwals from the Kumaon hills who consider Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan their guru and muse. The group presents qawwalis by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sufiyana kalaams by legendary poets such as Amir Khusrao, Meera Bai, and Baba Bulleh Shah, as well as ghazals, Kabir bhajans, and original compositions.
Formed in 2014 by lead vocalist and harmonium virtuoso Sarvjeet Tamta, the group draws musical inspiration from a rich lineage. Sarvjeet has trained under the esteemed Ustadji Wadali Brothers from Amritsar, Ustadji Fakira Khan Saheb from Barmer, Rajasthan, and Ustadji Padma Shri Anwar Khan Manganiyar.
Rehmat-e-Nusrat has performed at numerous college festivals across North India, introducing Sufi and qawwali music to new audiences in their home state. The pandemic did not dampen their spirit—they continued performing at pop-up concerts at venues like Museo Camera Museum and Throttle Shrottle, and participated in virtual concerts with Sacred Music Seattle, In2Wild Festival UK, Hothouse Chicago, and FabIndia.
They’ve also graced major stages and festivals such as Surajkund Crafts Mela, Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) 2021, Ziro Festival of Music 2022, and venues including Windmills Craftworks, India Habitat Centre, Royal Opera House Mumbai, Almora Lit Fest, and the Noor Festival of Lights (Dubai), among others.
