Under the Mango Tree" is a solo guitar concert of original musical compositions (and a few known pieces) by veteran guitarist Deepak Castelino. Delving into a range of genres ranging from jazz, folk, country and popular music,
Deepak's presentation is, in essence, a collection of thoughts high and low - from the happiness of a bright autumn day, and the smell of wet earth after the rains, to feelings of loneliness and solitude during the unfortunate
pandemic; from a lockdown that saw large masses of workers leave the cities to walk to their homes in distant villages, to uncertain futures, nostalgia and doubt.
Deepak is an accomplished guitar and banjo player who has been performing on stage for over forty years. Essentially trained in the western tradition, he has composed and recorded music for film, theatre and television commercials.
These include recording guitar music for films such as "In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones," "Electric Moon," "Milk & Opium," "I am Kalaam," and "Khamosh Paani." Deepak has partici[ated in international music residencies and performed on stage for over twenty-five years with the Sufi music ensemble "Chaar Yaar" in a host of countries including Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, Oman, Pakistan, Australia Nepal, Pakistan and South Africa.
