On 9 December, the Bollyjazz Big Band will attempt something very rare in India. Nearly twenty musicians will gather inside The Piano Man Jazz Club in New Delhi, the one room in the city that truly feels like a real jazz club. The musicians are coming from different parts of the country and from different parts of the world to create a single unified orchestra.
The audience gets to experience a complete jazz orchestra in an intimate room, and the performance will take place without any amplification. This allows the audience to hear the true character of the horns, the rhythm section, and the full ensemble exactly as they sound in real space.
This performance brings together two traditions: the orchestral sound of classic American big bands and the timeless melodies of Hindi cinema. People already carry a natural connection with Hindi film music, and when these songs are expressed through the jazz language, they become a perfect bridge into swing, harmony, and improvisation.
Big bands have a long history of playing inside small clubs in New York during the revival of large ensemble jazz. The experience is unforgettable — horn sections breathing together, natural dynamics, and powerful moments that rise directly from the instruments without any electronic filter. That is the feeling we want to share with Delhi.
On this night, you will hear Hindi film songs performed in a pure jazz tradition by an orchestra that fills the room with its natural sound. No alteration. No artificial lift. Only the energy of twenty musicians playing together at close range. It is a rare musical moment and something almost never attempted in India. If you love Hindi cinema, jazz, or the feeling of live music shaping the air around you, this evening is worth being part of.
